Experience Aurora

A family business established in 1890, Aurora Casket Company is the largest privately owned casket manufacturer in the country. It calls a small Indiana town, Aurora, its home.

Founder John Backman began the business with 30 employees making wooden caskets by hand. In the 1920's, Backman's son, William and his son-in-law, William Barrott, joined the company, making it a two-family endeavor.

Today, William D. Backman III is president and CEO, Chris Barrott is executive vice president, and Jason Barrott, a fifth-generation family member is director of marketing development.

Under their leadership, Aurora, with more than 900 employees, has grown into a successful and innovative company with more than 60 service centers nationwide.
The staff, many third- and forth- generation Aurora casket employees, continues the Backman/Barrott tradition- Taking extreme pride in quality workmanship.
