Duties
General Description
Position is the conduit for information from sales and marketing. Responsible for communications regarding any product changes to the marketing staff, and implementation of product changes throughout the company, including both wood and metal products. Responsible for continually searching for projects to reduce cost from and improve quality and productivity of the manufacturing process.
Essential Functions
Takes concepts for product changes from marketing and production to improve the cost, quality, and product offerings. Designs new and modified products. Qualifies products from vendors for use in product line, and qualifies new vendors. Manages and participates in the proposal, justification, design, engineering, purchasing and implementation of equipment needed for new and modified products/processes. Implements new processes to improve product cost and/or quality Acts as resource in providing technical assistance to production with regard to product/process issues.
Marginal Functions
Utilizes Lean Manufacturing techniques to develop process improvements, layouts, and flow analysis. Develops time standards and standard operating procedures. Must be able to accurately produce and modify plant layouts using AutoCAD, and use Solid Edge to design fixtures, jigs, and production machinery. Administer departmental policies, work rules and disciplinary action in accordance with the company handbook. Work with associates in the development, identification and accomplishment of their assigned goals and objectives. Maintain positive working relationship with plant managers and supervisory personnel.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Tasks
Essential knowledge base: MS Office applications, MS Project, AutoCAD, Solid Edge 3-D, SPC.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must be able to maintain confidential information relating to the company’s strategic goals and objectives.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering required, mechanical concentration preferred with product design experience. Requires 10+ years practical experience in related engineering field.
Physical Demands
Walking, standing, sitting, listening, and talking on a wide variety and continual basis are necessary. Movement outside of the general office area to production and/or warehouse areas will be required on a frequent basis. Ability to travel including international travel is required. Ability to travel to alternate locations for short periods of time required.
